Introduction

Some of my friends will say I have way too much time on my hands, and others will say I am most certainly sick.  Both are likely correct; I am a database junkie!  And now I have run out of data.  Needing a fix, I have uploaded this roster and appeal to you to help me, and all of us Santa Fe fans, with the missing information.

Most rosters list the power by model, giving all the numbers the engine carried through its history.  This roster lists almost all of the numbers assigned by Santa Fe to its diesel fleet, then identifies the engine bearing that number, and tells its story of renumbers, repaints, and disposition. For example, Santa Fe assigned the road number 630 to four different diesel engines, as shown on the time-line below. This roster, at 630, will show the history of each.

It would probably have been more efficient to do the roster as a database, but this method offers the option of printing the whole thing (though you might want to disable the background before printing).  My printed copies run about two-inches thick, printed front-to-back.

Ultimately sure there are errors contained in the information, and obvious missing data, I beg for your help.  Your critical comments, corrections, and most of all, accurate additions, are most welcome.  If this site is to become highly usable, it needs perfection--your perfection.  I will gladly receive your e-mails at the address below, and, as time permits, make the needed corrections and additions, then cite you in the acknowledgements which appear below.

About copyrights . . . .  Some individuals have copyrighted their sites.  I understand and accept that for such things as images.  However, my research company's legal counsel advises that data such as presented in this roster are facts which cannot be copyrighted, and I've made no attempt to do so.  I have, however, placed a copyright note at the bottom of each page, the intention of which is to say that neither the information nor the HTML code are under my ownership, but that I'd prefer, that after all the work I've done, you'd not filch the page and claim it as your own.

Mr. Werkema reminds us there were no locomotives which "officially carried SPSF reporting marks--they were always ATSF or SP locomotives regardless of their numbers."

Acknowledgements

I am indebted to many people for their assistance and encouragement with this roster.  The most prominent among them are Chuck Beahm, David Brewer, Bob Bye, Jim Czarnecki, and Jim Fuhrman.  Each, in their own way, have been and are becoming my teachers and have offered an immense amount of information helpful to the formation of this roster.  To each of them, "Thank you."

A very special thank you to Gregg Fuhriman who has graciously offered his entire ATSF diesel roster data for inclusion on this site.  At one time he had envisioned this kind of roster and began collecting what turned out to be an immense amount of information, but deciding to spend more time creating his excellent HO ATSF models, he instead offered the roster information to me.  It will take some time to include his details.  I trust you will find this extended effort to be well-worthwhile.  Thanks, Gregg.

Thanks to Bob Waller, who assisted with the ATSF-to-Conrail C30-7 dispositions.  See his Conrail Cyclopedia.
Thanks to Martin Baumann, who provided a very good, detailed FT roster.
Thanks to Andre Kristopans, who has constructed an exhaustive EMC/EMD/GMD builder number roster.
Thanks to Ed Cooper for help with TPW information.
Evan Werkema helped me make sense of the ATSF/SPSF/ATSF renumbering and repainting.  I hope I've done the issue some justice in this roster.  Thanks, Evan.
Thanks to those who've contributed CF7 information:  "Crazy Nip," David North, William Powers, and Ron Roman.  Also to members of the KCS Historical Society who've provided disposition information:  Karl Bernard, Chris Le Blanc, Joey Meuleman, and Mike Palmieri (see Mike's Louisiana Rail Site at http://lrs.railspot.com).
Thanks to Keel Middleton and Matt Monson who are providing on-going listings of BNSF power dispositions.

And thanks to the person who animated the crossing signal many of us have stolen and used!
